Email Marketing: Mistakes Aren´t Marketing Techniques

Writing by Brick Marketing on Saturday, 24 of May , 2008 at 11:45 am

There is an increasing number of “apology” emails in my inbox these days, as I suspect there are in everyone´s. Mistakes have turned into the latest email marketing craze for some bizarre reason.

“So sorry! Wrong link in the last email!”
“Please forgive me, I gave you the wrong link.”
“Whoops! Not again!”

These are just a few of the subject lines you´re likely to see coming in from those calling themselves email marketing gurus. Is it a technique that works? Perhaps with some. But for most, I suspect the first thing that comes to mind is something like “amateur”. Especially when the same email marketer uses the same mistake over and over.

Mistakes do happen, even in email marketing. If they do, I would suggest fixing them and apologizing, but don´t make it a huge thing. And certainly don´t use it as a marketing technique, making errors on purpose! This is just silly and it shows that you aren´t being careful of your work. Any email marketing beginner can double check his email newsletter before it goes out and there is no excuse for missing out links every other email.

Take the time to ensure that your email marketing is based on quality and good information and you´ll find that it lasts a lot longer.
