Email marketing has taken many different turns and twists over the years but one rule has never changed, don’t spam. Sending out millions of emails every week selling awful products and pyramid schemes does not work anymore. The community has been conditioned to this type of behavior due to all the junk they have received over the years in their inboxes.
Many email distributors have processes in place in order to prevent this from occurring and if you break their policy your account will be shut off for good. It is important as a marketer to target individuals who are looking to be targeted. This list might consist of past customers, current customers and even people who have clearly given you their email addresses because they want to hear more from you. We still talk to many clients that feel the need to bombard millions of email address to grow their business. This approach does not work anymore and more often will hurt rather help you grow. When an email recipient is expecting some sort of contact from you they are more likely to respond with an inquiry or even a purchase rather than unsubscribing to your newsletter or email. Old school thinking in a new school environment will not help you grow your business. It is important to keep up with tactics and strategies in order to be competitive in your industry. Failure to morph in new age thinking could be the downfall to your business.
