Will XMail be the equalizer?
Elon Musk is at it again
Should Gmail et al. be concerned?
I work with many companies with list sizes varying from a few thousand subscribers to millions of subscribers. They all have one thing in common … Over 60% of all lists consist of Gmail and Google Workspace email addresses.
There is generally also a fair number of Yahoo! and Microsoft addresses.
Those truly are the big three in the email space. Yes, there are many other providers, but they generally make up a relatively small percentage of an email list.
Fellow South African Elon Musk, owner of X (Formerly Twitter), first hinted at XMail becoming a thing in February 2024 and then again in December 2024, with speculation being that it is indeed being worked on in earnest.
If X is indeed working on XMail, they have a very steep hill to climb to genuinely compete with the big three.
In this edition, there is an article by Chad S. White diving deep into how Xmail could impact email and email marketing in the near term. I strongly suggest you give it a read!

Domain Warming and the Importance of Domain Age - EmailKarmaNew to the email game? Pump the brakes, hotshot. Your brand-spanking-new domain might be fresh, but it's also under the email world's microscope. Domains under 90 days old are like catnip for spam filters and skeptical mailbox providers. To avoid the dreaded spam folder, ease into the email scene with a good ol' warm-up—think light jogging for your domain's rep. And watch out for those "cousin domains," they're not the clever trick you think—they could tarnish your brand's good name. Remember, trust is a marathon, not a sprint. |
